Yurok Elder Advocacy Program

The Yurok Elder Advocacy Program is here to support Elders and vulnerable adults who are experiencing—or at risk of—abuse or neglect. The Court Investigative Social Workers provide compassionate and professional help to protect and empower those in need.

What We Do:

  • Help clients understand their legal rights and options
  • Offer emotional support and guidance
  • Assist with paperwork and court processes
  • Accompany clients to court for reassurance and advocacy
  • Connect clients with vital resources like housing, food, healthcare, and social services
  • Work with outside agencies to ensure clients receive complete care tailored to their needs

Types of Abuse We Address:

  • Financial Abuse: Theft, coercion, or misuse of money or property
  • Neglect or Abandonment: Failing to meet basic needs like food, shelter, or medical care
  • Physical Abuse: Hitting, kicking, or other harmful physical actions
  • Emotional Abuse: Verbal threats, humiliation, or isolation
  • Sexual Abuse: Unwanted touching or sexual remarks

Who Is Eligible:

  • Elders aged 55 or older (per Yurok Code)
  • Vulnerable adults aged 18 or older who cannot protect themselves due to physical or mental challenges
  • Must live within the Yurok Tribe service area (Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties), with priority for those on the Yurok Reservation
